Please share a memory of Fanny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Fanny Marshall, 92, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt peacefully passed away in Wayne Memorial Hospital. Fanny was born on February 3, 1931, to Harold Frederich and Julia James in the house her great-grandfather had built on the corner of Keystone St. and Maple Ave. in Hawley, Pa. Her childhood was spent attending the Hawley schools, singing in the choir, and swimming and boating at her family's cottage on Fairview Lake. She attended Mansfield College, graduating in the Class of 1952 with a degree in teaching. While at college, she met her former husband, James Marshall. They lived at Fairview Lake for over 40 years and had two children - Christopher and Melissa. Fanny worked in the education field, teaching Kindergarten at the Stourbridge Primary Center as well as First and Second Grade at the Paupack Elementary School. Outside of work and family, Fanny lived her life focused on serving her community with love and dedication. She volunteered at the Hawley Library for over 40 years, receiving the Volunteer of The Year award in 2013. She also taught Sunday School for over 25 years at the United Methodist Churches both in Hawley and Paupack. Fanny's life was balanced with the excitement of traveling to places such as Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the Caribbean Islands as well as with the quiet pleasures of reading, walking her dogs, playing golf, tending to her beautiful gardens, and spending quality time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Fanny's bright and caring spirit will be missed by all who knew her, but the impact of her devoted service and loving kindness will live on for years to come. Fanny leaves a son: James C. Marshall and wife, Candice, of Hawley as well as a daughter: Melissa Bartkow and husband, William, of Paupack. Her three granddaughters are: Kiersten Marshall Semon and husband, Jeff, Juliana Henneforth, and Natalie Bartkow. Her great-grandchildren are Lylah and Isaac Semon. She is also survived by a sister, Joan James Douglass and husband Alfred of Tafton, a niece: Lynda Baker, a nephew: Ross Douglass, and wife, Megan of Colorado, a grandniece: Linzhi Douglass, a grandnephew: Wade Baker, and a great grandniece: Reese. Her extended family included: Melissa and James Flores and Jamie, Jakob and Ava Flores; Christa and Leonard Maiocco, Lenny and Alaina, Brian Long, and Alex, Skyler, Archer and Ronnie. A private graveside service for the family will be held in the Spring. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hawley Public Library and the Paupack United Methodist Church.
