Jennifer Leigh Dowling, age 52, of Hawley died Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a courageous battle with kidney disease.

Born December 24, 1971, in Glens Falls, NY, Jennifer was the daughter of Ruth Anne (Dinsmore) Nelson of Hawley and the late Richard Forrest Mapps.

Jennifer was a beautiful person inside and out. She was always warm and loving to everyone she met. A wonderful loving mother, grandma, wife, sister, and daughter. Despite her illness, she was always smiling and wanting to make others happy.

Her pride and joy were her daughters. Jennifer took great pride in being a loving mother. She often said it was her best accomplishment. She was always there when her girls needed her. They were undoubtedly the light of her life.

She loved to travel with her husband Jay, visiting different spots or just taking a long drive. Eating ice cream at the boat launch with Jay was one of her favorite things to do.

She had a deep love for animals. Her pets were loved endlessly and spoiled by her. She was always trying to help stray animals in a time of need.

Jennifer regularly attended the Waymart Church. She loved meeting people and befriending others, making everyone feel welcome.

She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents: Howard and Ruth Dinsmore. She is survived by her two daughters: Amanda Leigh Dowling of Pittston and Brooke Ashlyn Dowling of Pittston; her mother: Ruth Anne Nelson; her husband: Jay Newsome; step-son: Brandon Newsome; one brother: Brian Mapps of Tafton; and two grandchildren: Chase and Blake Bone.

To know her was to love her.

A memorial service will be held February 3, 2024 at 1PM at the White Mills Community Church.

Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
