Obituary of Bernard L. Knapp Sr.

Bernard L. Knapp, Sr., age 77, of Hawley died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra J. (Fotusky) Knapp, in 2003. Born December 6, 1946, in Lords Valley, Bernie was the son of the late Loris Devere Knapp and Ethelynn (White) Knapp and was one of eight brothers and sisters. Bernard was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in the service which his family always found fascinating. A hard worker intent on providing for his family, he was employed as a construction worker and later as a maintenance worker for Lackawaxen Township in Pike County until his retirement. Bernard was a very kind-hearted, caring father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle to all. He had many health obstacles over his last years but amazed his doctors and his family with how hard he fought to stay with them. He is survived by three daughters: Tammy Lyons of Honesdale, Melissa Gasiorek of Beach Lake, and Ethelyn Knapp of Hawley; two sons: Timothy Knapp of Hawley and Bernard L. Knapp Jr. of Hawley; three sisters: Arlene Kelly of Greeley, Debbie Knapp of Florida and Dolores Pruess of Greeley; two brothers: Jimmy Knapp of Hawley and Joseph Knapp of Greeley; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He loved his entire family but especially adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bernard was also preceded in death by a son, Joshua Knapp; two brothers, William and Charles Knapp; and a sister, Jen Barnes. His family is comforted knowing that he is now with their mother, his wife and the love of his life, Sandra, his youngest son, Joshua, along with many other loved ones in heaven, united again for eternity. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Teeters’ East Chapel, 507 Church St., Hawley, PA 18428. Visitation will be held immediately prior beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
