Gregory L. Slader Obituary

Gregory L. Slader, 85 of Lakeville, passed away peacefully on Friday February 16, 2024. Born in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Donald Dean and Lillian (Lamphron) Slader.

Greg grew up in Nutley and raised his family in Lyndhurst before moving to the Poconos in 1999. He retired from Crowley-Axelrod Foods after 38 years as a dispatcher and night foreman. Greg was proud to serve as a Specialist (SP4) in the US Army. He was also honored to be part of the Mayflower Society and was a direct descendant of John Alden.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (Hefele) Slader and his children, Cheryl Slader, Russ Slader and wife Lisa, Dean Slader and wife Lauri and his 5 beloved grandchildren, Sienna, Jake, Jai, Nate and Max. He was dear brother and brother-in-law to Judy Tattoli and the late Mario, Patricia MacDonald and the late Billy, Christine Kimball and husband Tom, Richard Slader and his wife Claire. Dear brother in-law to Nancy Slader.

He was predeceased by his brother James Slader and sister Deanna Cocroft.

Greg and his beloved Rosie would be celebrating their 59th Wedding Anniversary this week. Greg spent most of his life taking care of Rosie and his children and in later years Rosie spent her time taking care of Greg so he could remain at the home they loved so much. Rosie never left his side, and their marriage was definitely one of a kind. Greg was an amazing husband, father, brother and friend but his favorite role was Pop Pop. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and nothing gave him more joy than teaching his kids, grandkids and frankly all kids how to fish. His best days were spent fishing with his grandchildren at the edge of Paupackan Lake, aka Pop Pop's Lake.

Greg worked nights through most of his career but that didn't stop him from taking his kids to dance classes, games, and practices. They will be forever grateful for the wonderful life he gave them.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Center St. Nutley, NJ, on Thursday, February 22nd from 4 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday February 23rd at 9:30 AM followed by a burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, 334 St. Mary's Church Rd., Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania.
