Bertha Kofler, age 94, a 39-year resident of Newfoundland, died peacefully at home Friday, March 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Kofler, in 2019.

Born January 14, 1930 in Gottschee, Slovenia, she was the youngest and last surviving of nine children born to the late Josef and Veronica (Mische) Spreitzer. She emigrated to the United States in the 1950’s, and became part of a large community of Gottscheers who had settled in Ridgewood, Queens.

She and her husband Albert moved to Newfoundland in 1985 and became members of St. Veronica’s RC Church in Paupack. She enjoyed country life and nature. She loved gardening, baking and needlework.

She is survived by two daughters: Anita Kofler of Newfoundland and Ellie Kofler of Glendale, NY.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 7, from 1 to 5 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral mass will be Friday, March 8 at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor.
