Ethel A. Cooper Obituary

Ethel A. Cooper, age 98, of Tafton, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Cooper. They had been married for 56 years at the time of his death in 1989.



Born March 2, 1926, in Pottsville, PA, Ethel was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kovich. She and her husband James married in 1943 as he was leaving to serve in the US Army during World War II.



A Tafton resident of most of her life, she was at cook at Cove Haven Resort in Lakeville prior to her retirement and was also a member of St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church. She dedicated her life to raising her seven children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.



She is survived by six daughters: Ethel Grim of Tafton, Carolyn Martin of Tafton, Kathleen Thorsen of Hemlock Farms, Hawley, Elizabeth Morgan and her husband Jeffrey of Ocean City, MD, Virginia Taylor and her husband Edward of Cape Coral, FL, and Connie Cooper of Tafton; one son: Jeffrey Cooper of Hawley; her grandchildren: Neal Grim, Denise Steuhl, Bobby Martin, Anthony Cooper and his wife Irene, Bonnie Martin and her husband Albert DesChenes, Amanda Cooper and her partner Robert Willaford, and Savanna Akins and her husband Matthew; her great grandchildren: Ethan and Fayth Steuhl, Paige Brown, Frederick, Isabella and Damon Jude Martin, Vivian Cooper, Luke and Mason Grim, Hope and Paige Akins, Owen, Ayden and Colton Willaford; and one great great grandson: Dallas Palumbo.



The last surviving of eight, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Annie Fedock, Mary Erdock, Dorothy Ryan, John Kovich, Michael Kovich, Helen Egan and Joseph Kovich, as well as a grandson, William Jude Martin.



Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, from 3 to 6 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, July 2, at 10:00 AM at St John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 705 Route 739, Lords Valley, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Edward J. Casey. Burial will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.
