Michele Lucia "Mikki" Uzupes, age 55, of Hawley passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Born September 6, 1968, in Bronx, NY, Mikki was the daughter of Edward Francis Uzupes of Hawley and the late Lucia Josephine "Penny" (Randolla) Uzupes.

Mikki was a graduate of Honesdale High School, Class of 1986, and earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from Point Park College in Pittsburgh. She had worked for the News Eagle and was the news director for WDNH Radio for many years.

Mikki was passionate about her community and her desire to see it grow and thrive in the future. She wanted Wayne County to be a place where younger generations could stay to raise and support their own families. This passion was reflected in her most recent role as the Community Network Specialist for Wayne Tomorrow. A strong advocate for literacy, she also volunteered with the Wayne County Library. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the local community.

In her free time, Mikki enjoyed adrenaline-raising activities such as jet skiing and snowmobiling.

She is survived by her father: Edward Francis Uzupes of Hawley; her sister: Kristine Carroll and her husband A.J. of Lake Ariel; two nieces: Chayni Carroll of Bloomsburg and Rhayni Carroll of Lake Ariel; her longtime partner: Bryson Glegg of Lackawaxen; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Teeters' East Chapel, 507 Church St, Hawley, PA. There will be a memorial service at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the funeral home with Father William A. Mentz officiating.
