Every time I think of you, tears well up in my eyes. Some of it is because I’m sad and I miss you, but I keep telling myself I will see you again. God needed you to be back with your family, and I understand. I will always miss you and have a hole in my heart; you were the grandfather I grew up with.
I remember when we would visit you or you would visit us, and we would go to McDonald's. You would get a black coffee and we would have a little breakfast while I played in the jungle gym they had in the store. We would stay for hours, and you would enjoy your time reading the newspaper and talking to anyone.
I’m also going to miss the car rides where you would blast the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive." How I hated that song, as you would sometimes play it on loop for eight hours! Now, I simply miss hearing it and being annoyed by it. It's funny how we become frustrated with little things but miss them greatly when they are no more.
I'm going to miss seeing you because you always made people feel better, even when they were sad. You had a big heart and made a tremendous impact on everyone who ever met you. I'm really going to miss when you patted my leg and said, "Nikki, Nikki, Nikki, my little angel." Life won’t be the same without you, but I know God needed you with your family again.
I know one day I will see you again, and I hope you continue to look over us, even in heaven. I know everyone who has ever met you loved you greatly. It’s amazing how you had such a big heart and how people tended to gravitate toward you. I hope you know how loved you were and how we will all continue thinking about you as life goes on.
I love you, Grandpa. Thank you for being you and for being a part of our lives.
