Robert Michael Smith, age 82, of Greeley died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Maureen Catherine (Fitzgerald) Smith, in 1995. Born December 9, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Cecilia (Clark) Smith. An Army veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, he had been a pressman for the Newark Star Ledger until his retirement in 2006. A Greeley resident for over 50 years, Bob was well-known locally for cruising on his red Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. He was also a member of VFW Ecker-Haupt Post 5635, Lackawaxen, PA. He fully enjoyed his retirement years, including wintering in Costa Rica for 20 years with his longtime companion, Nancy Domas. He is survived by one son: Erik Smith of Manorville, NY; one daughter: Dawn Morris and her husband Glenn of Greenwich, CT; one sister: Regina Smith of Kentucky; and three grandchildren: Erik Smith Jr., Patrick Smith and Shea Morris. The Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, from 1PM -3:30PM, culminating with service at 3:30 PM with Deacon Paul Cooper officiating. In leiu of flowers, a donation may be made to VFW Ecker-Haupt Post 5635, PO Box 170, Lackawaxen, PA 18435.
