I offer my deepest condolences to the McCune family & pray for comfort & healing. I ask that GOD give them strength, protection & guidance through this challenging journey of loss.
I knew Steve from his date of hire, 1986, with the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Police until my retirement in 2012. I remember most that Steve was well liked & always loved a good conversation. He was a true professional. I watched him progress through the ranks of Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant & Captain. He became a great asset to the Department. He worked hard to become a Range/Firearms Instructor & later became the Department's Chief Armorer. Steve was an outstanding Firearms Instructor & was the best of the best Armorer. I remember most how proud he made the BNL Police Department when he attended a Suffolk County Police Department Pistol Shoot and walked away with one of the top honors.
Wishing you farewell in your journey to eternity.
Thomas Gilbert
Retired BNL Police Chief

Chief McCuen and Captain Saniola swore me into the BNL ranks back in February 2014. Pic attached. Chief McCuen and I had a bet that he couldn’t lift all the weights on the fly rack. I was sure I had an easy win, however I was extremely wrong! Chief McCuen lifted all the weights with ease and I wound up owing him a steak dinner.

Q: What will you miss most about Steven?
A: Steve was always there to help everyone in need. Steve always would stop by to make sure we were OK, and it was always nice to have conversations with him. Steve supported the American Legion Honesdale Post #254 and the veteran community, and we will never forget his support.
Steve was truly a great neighbor and most of all a great friend.

Steve and Rosalie when they came to visit me after I had my baby. They were thoughtful to bring a cute Winnie the Pooh toy.

He took his grandkids Ryan and Gabby to Costa's Family Fun Park. Always took the time to spend time with them and have some fun.

Steve would frequent the airport dinner on Owego Tpke in Honesdale and would always purchase an extra order of rye toast and feed his dogs.
