Obituary of Edward Leo Drake

Edward L.Drake, age 91, of Paradise Point, Lakeville, died unexpectedly,Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. Mr. Drake was born October 31, 1921 at Hawley, PA the son of the late Arthur and Lena (Frey) Drake. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Roberts) Drake and his second wife, Marie (Jacoby) Drake; a sister, Agnes, two brothers, Robert & Art and a step son, John Jacoby. He served in the Army during World War II and was employed as a Vice-President by Perfect Propane Gas Company, after which, Ed & his first wife, Marie, were the co-owners of Drake's Hardware in Hawley. He was a charter member of VFW Post 5823, Hawley Ambulance Corps, past president of Hawley Fire Co., Wayne County Firemen's Assoc., he served on the Hawley Borough Council for 8 years, received the Scranton/Lackawanna Business College Trophy in 1939 for winning the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Foul Shooting Contest and was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame. Ed was a former member of Paupack Hills Golf Club and Bellemonte Hunting Club and was an airplane pilot who flew out of Holbert's Airport in Honesdale. Ed was a great son, brother, husband, grandfather and most of all a great father who loved his family. He was known as Poppie to his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He adored his great granddaughter, Mia and loved his time with her. He was a man who could fix anything and would help everyone. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and traveling. Ed also bowled at Wallenpaupack Lanes. In his school years he was noted for soccer and basketball. He also enjoyed going to lunch all the time with his long time friend, Claude Seely. His entire family was by his side when he passed. He will be very much missed. We love you Dad and we love you Poppie. He is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Daniel E. & Brenda Drake of Lords Valley, Hawley; two grandsons & their wives, Daniel G. & Meica Drake of Cherry Ridge, PA; Kyle E. & Rachel Drake of Pittston, PA; great granddaughter, Mia Drake; step daughter, Bonnie Jacoby of Allentown, PA; brother & sister-in-law, Joseph & Lydora Drake of Hawley, PA and several nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 17th at 10 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.
