Obituary of Bessie Byrnes

Bessie Byrnes, age 94, of Laurel Apartments, Waymart, died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center, Lake Ariel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Francis M. Byrnes, in 1986. Born March 22, 1918, in Tafton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Saul and Lona (Bryant) Dirk. Formerly of Woodside, Queens, as well as Tafton, she was an office clerk for MetLife prior to her retirement. She later worked as a substitute kitchen aide at Blooming Grove School and Wallenpaupack Area School District. Mrs. Byrnes was a member of St. Mary's RC Church, Waymart, and a former member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley. She is survived by one daughter: Sister Mary Byrnes of New Windsor, NY; one son: Michael Byrnes of Westlake, OR; two granddaughters: Michelle Rossi and Lisa Bridges; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, February 15, from 9 to 10:30 AM at TEETERS' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Msgr. Robert Ritchie, Rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, NY, officiating. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley, later in Spring. Memorials may be made to In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Presentation, 84 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY 12553.
