Obituary of John Thomas Sloane Sr

John Thomas Sloane, Sr, age 84, Rowland, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the home of his son John. Mr. Sloane was born May 8, 1919 at Bronx, NY the son of the late Michael J. and the late Mary (Cassidy) Sloane.
His wife was the former Florence Mickey Maguire. She predeceased him in March 1998.
John was also predeceased by brothers James and Michael.
He served in the Army from to during World War II and John served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was a former President of the Holy Name Society at St. Margarets in Middle Village.
Following his retirement in 1970, John tended bar at The Last Resort in Lackawaxen and The Cuckoos Nest, Bohemia, Hawley.
While a Teamster, John was one of Santas helpers for the Irish-American Teamsters group.
He also served as Grand Marshall the past 2 years for the Annual Sloanes St. Patricks Day Parade and could often be found singing Irish songs. He was famous as a great joke and story teller.
He was retired from Associated Transport Trucking, Greenpoint, NY in 1970.
Mr. Sloane was a member of Welcome Lake Social Club and Central Volunteer Fire Dept
He served as an usher at Sacred Heart Church for many years.
He is survived by one daughter: Veronica Dean of Middlebury, CT and one son: John T. Sloane, Jr. of -Hawley, PA

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at TEETERS' Funeral Chapel, Inc., 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Greeley where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated.
Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley on Thursday.
