JANE DELANEY OBIT
Hawley resident Jane McHale Delaney died on Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Lindin Hall, Kennett Square, PA following a long illness. She was the widow of Edward F. Delaney who died on March 27, 1994. The couple had been married for 49 years.
Born in Hawley on March 20, 1921, Mrs. Delaney was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Julia McAndrew McHale. She was a graduate of Hawley High School and Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia.
During their marriage, she and her husband, an executive with General Electric Company, lived in Newport News and Richmond, VA; Havertown and Drexel Hill, PA; Schenectady, NY; and Hawley, PA.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she centered her life on both her immediate and extended families, supplying loving encouragement and comfort and passing on to them her gifts of compassion and laughter as well as her love of reading, music, and cooking.
Mrs. Delaney was a member of the B.V.M. Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was instrumental in the founding of the groups Funeral Luncheon Team. Prior to this, while a resident of Schenectady, she was an active volunteer at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Niskayuna where she organized parishioners to visit homebound elderly and disabled members of the community. She was also president of the Garden Club of Schenectady and secretary-treasurer of the Benedicts Club.
She is survived by two daughters and three sons: Anne Delaney of Hawley; Maureen Wallace and Kevin Delaney, both of Westchester, PA; Edward Delaney of Richmond, IN; and Richard (Ezra) Delaney of Port Washington, NY. Her other survivors include a brother, James E. McHale of Hawley, 11 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Thomas, a sister Mary E. Rose, and two brothers, Joseph C. and Charles P. McHale.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at BVM Queen of Peace Church, Hawley, with interment in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 9, at Teeters East Chapel, 505 Church Street, Hawley, between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to Covenant House, P.O.
