Obituary of Anna E. Hiris

Anna Hiris, 88, died peacefully at home on March 26, 2004, following an illness. Born in Dunmore, PA, she was the daughter of the late Hilary and Anastasia Judiskaite Duda. She was the widow of the late Frank L. Hiris, who died in 1998. They had been married for 62 years.
Living in Ledgedale, PA, on the family farm, she graduated from Lake Consolidated High School in Lake Ariel, PA. She worked at Skytop Lodge and, following her marriage, owned and operated several family businesses with her husband, Frank, in the Hawley area. These included the Tink Wig Casino (1930-1940), the Hawley Electric Store and the Hawley Inn (1950-1974), in conjunction with raising her family. She was a member of Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. Anna was also a member of the Golden Girls who met frequently for lunch at the Hawley Diner.
Along with being the family caregiver, Annas interests included sewing, cooking, canning, gardening and roses. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her three children: Vivian Reisinger and her husband, Donald, of Hawley; Deborah Hiris of Wyncote, PA; Arno and his wife, Maria, of Clifton Park, NY; her sister: Ginger Remillard of St. Albans, VT; her brother: Edward Duda of Mine Hill, NJ; her grandchildren: Melanie and Lori Hiris, Doug Reisinger and his wife, Beth, Alyssa and Darreck Reisinger; and her great grandchildren: Kayla, Alexander, Morgan and Mitchell Reisinger.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Steve and Stanley Duda.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 11:00AM, with Rev. William B. Healey, officiating. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Teeters East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, on Monday, March 29, 2004, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice St. John, 1007 Oak St., Pittston Twp., PA 18640, whose caring nurses were there to provide comfort in her final days; or Hawley
Ambulance Co., 219 River St., Hawley, PA 18428, comprised of caring individuals who devote their time to the community.
