Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph William Granville Jr., 57, of Hawley, Pa, passed suddenly on Thursday, July 4th, 2013. Born on March 11, 1956, to the late Joseph William Sr and Helen Irene Kyzer Granville, Joe grew up in Hawley, PA and attended Wallenpaupack schools. He played many sports during his life but his biggest love was baseball. He won several awards throughout his high school and college years. His proudest accomplishment came when he shared the love of the game with his son and many youths in the area. Along with his good friend Bob McGinnis he coached his 12 year old team to the 1997 PA Babe Ruth State Championship, forming many lasting friendships along the way with both his players and their parents. He was inducted into the Wayne County Hall of Fame in 2006. Joe was the heart and soul of his family. He lived his life for the ones he loved, doing anything and everything in his power to make those around him happy. He loved his work as a self-employed contractor and was a master craftsman, leaving his mark on many homes throughout Hawley. He will live on in the hearts of the lives he touched and will forever be missed. Joe is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Laurie Winkler; son Joseph Daniel and his wife Nichole; daughter Amanda; three sisters Barbara Gura and husband Joe, Jackie Natishan and husband John, and Ruth Granville and companion Chris Lenihan; grandmother Ruth Kyzer; nieces and nephews Morgan, Korri, Jackie, and Joey and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. He had a special relationship with his aunt and uncle Janet and Bernie Singer and mother in law Rose Winkler along with the entire Winkler Family. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph William and Helen Irene Kyzer and his father in law and friend Otto "Ray" Winkler. Joe was a loving husband, father, mentor, and friend to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions for the Joe Granville Memorial Scholarship Fund, benefiting Wallenpaupack Area graduates with a passion for baseball. Donations can be sent to The Dime Bank, P.O. Box 499, 99 Welwood Avenue Hawley, PA 18428. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 9th, from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA 18428. The funeral services for Joe will be held on Wednesday, July 10th at 11 AM at the Hawley United Methodist Church, 315 Church St., Hawley, PA, with Pastor Anna Layman-Knox officiating.
