Obituary of Ernest Carl Becker
Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ernest Ernie Carl Becker, Jr., age 55, of Hawley, died Saturday, October 28, at home. Mr. Becker was born October 7, 1951, in Passaic, NJ, and was the son of the late Ernest C.and Mary (Koptyra) Becker Sr. He had lived in the Hawley area for the past 18 years and could often by seen roaming the Hawley streets on his scooter. During his working years he held various positions, a church custodian, installer of hardwood flooring, painter and, most recently, making fishing lures at Thomas Spinning Lures in Hawley.
He is survived by two children: Chad Noah Becker and Kelsi Grace Becker, and his former wife, Brenda Becker, all of Honesdale; four sisters: his twin, Marlene Nankin of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Ellen Paradiso of N. Haledon, NJ, Audrey Schwind of Haledon, NJ, and Jane Sottile of Loveland, OH; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ernie loved his children dearly and they loved their dad. He loved spending time with them but in recent years due to his declining health, he could not be the active dad he once was. They will miss his greatly.
Ernies dog Daisy was a faithful companion for many years.
Ernie spent many long hours at Wayne Memorial Hospital over the years undergoing treatment for his illness. He thanks his healthcare providers for their kindness and care during those years. In addition, the Area Agency of Aging bus was faithful transportation for Ernie. He could always count on a ride.
Due to the fact that he was 100% disabled, he spent most of his time at home and alone. He was happy with his computer and TV. When the computer was down, his landlord and friend was up to get it running again. Thank you, Frank, for helping Ernie and caring.
Although he did not have many close friends, he did have a lot of town friends and acquaintances. He would scoot around town (weather permitting) and talk to just about everyone and kept up on all the town goings on. Sixteen years in the same apartment and he became a town fixture!
A very special thank you to Ernies physicians, Dr. Aronica and Dr. Peterson. He could be very stubborn, and they were patient. Thanks as well to the Wallenpaupack IGA for weekly shopping and delivery of Ernies groceries.
Also special thanks to the crew at Trishs Bagels, who would hand deliver coffee and whatever else he asked and would help him in numerous ways. And to a special friend, Candy, who would help Ernie in whatever way and whenever she could. Thank you, Candy!
And to all who in some way helped make Ernies life better or were just there. Thank you! There is no way his family can possibly know all of Ernies friends or who helped or cared for him, but his family knows Ernie appreciated your help and treasured your friendships.
