Obituary of Paul Matthew Finan

Paul Matthew Finan, age 82, of Hawley died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Born April 11, 1925, in Hawley, he was the son of the late Matthew J. and Mary Jane (McHale) Finan. He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Ella Glossenger.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a machine gunner who served under General George Patton and was in the D-Day Invasion in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and many other European Campaigns. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Middle Eastern Service Medal and five Bronze Stars.
A lifelong resident of Hawley, he was a graduate of Hawley High School and Barber School and owned and operated Finans Barbershop prior to his retirement.
Mr. Finan was a 4th Degree Knight and past Grand Knight of Knights Of Columbus Council 797, Hawley; a member of American Legion, Wilson-Kelch Post 311, Hawley; and VFW Robert Drake Memorial Post 5823, Hawley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Gerald P. of Cape Coral , FL, Ronald W. and his wife Rae Ellen of Hawley, and Barry J. and his wife Maryellen of Castle Rock, CO; a sister: Mary Jane Rusnak of Washingtons Crossing, PA; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; a daughter-in-law, Judith Marie; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Marie.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM Wednesday, Oct. 10,
at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 319 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
Memorials may be made to donor's favorite charity.
