Obituary of Joseph Szilagyi

Joseph Szilagyi, age 88, of Bethany Village, Bethany, died Friday, January 18, 2008. Born March 26, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Vlaszacs) Szilagyi. He is survived by his wife, the former Rose Ferrara.
He was an Army veteran who was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation and World War II Victory Medal for his service during World War II.
Formerly of Belleville, NJ, he retired as a truck driver from Red Star Freight Lines in 1980. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, stamp and coin collector.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Patricia Gonzales of Belleville, NJ, Linda Mais of Daytona Beach, FL, Sandra Meola of Los Angeles, CA, and Tina Colella of Oceanport, NJ; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 9:00 to 10:00AM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.
