Joseph Maxwell Russell, Jr., age 80, of, Boothbay Harbor, ME died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, ME
Mr. Russell was born December 8, 1927 in East Orange, NJ and was the son of the late Joseph Maxwell, Sr. and Marybelle (Martin) Russell.
Mr. Russell was a graduate of Germantown Academy and Ricker Classical Institute with a degree in teaching. After graduation he served in the US Navy during World War II as an Airman 2nd Class with the Utility Transport Squadron in Norfolk, VA. He was a member of Fort Washington #308 AF & AM in Fort Washington, PA and received his 32nd degree, Supreme Council Scottish Rite, Valley of Allentown, PA.
He was a self employed entrepreneur and was a developer of many projects including Tanglwood Resort, the Audubon Water Co. in Audubon, PA, La Reserve Resort and Ski Area in the Laurentian Mountain Range. Mr. Russell formally owned the Nordic Pipe Company in VA and PA, which supplies underground pipe to utility companies. In Maine, he owned several restaurants, including J.R. Maxwells and Falcons in Freeport and was the developer of Western View Golf Course in Augusta.
His most cherished moments were sitting on his porch with family and friends watching sunsets, Sunday picnics at Damariscove, spending time at his camp hunting, fishing with his sons, having a good time with family and friends, and making memories with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Martha (Mayer) Russell of Boothbay Harbor and formerly of Hawley;
three daughters: Brenda Jo Russell of Boothbay Harbor, ME; Jeannie & Neil Amirault of Georgetown; Holly & Daniel Marinari of Pottstown, PA; Three sons, Kim Max & Joni Russell of Boothbay Harbor, ME; Joseph H. & Jana Russell of Boothbay Harbor, ME; J. Max III & Erika Russell of Oakland, ME; 19 grandchildren, Mike, Kim, Stephanie, Kelly Brook, Nina, Tanner, Ashley, Cheslea, Taylor, Dani, Shain, Ashley, Max, Markus, Russell, Veronica, Ryan, Josie, Dovelyn and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Bruce Russell.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 11am to 12:30PM at TEETERS' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 12:30 at TEETERS' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley with Rev. Martin L. Cox, pastor Hawley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack, PA.
