I have many fond memories of my cousin Woody. In the summer I spent time at the little cabin next to the house.I had many sleepovers at my Aunt Mad and Uncle Bill's house. I remember the field next to the house filled with junk cars all waiting to be converted to race cars. Aunt Mad was always asking Woody when he was going to get rid of all those old cars and he'd come home with another. Bitsy, Robin and I loved to play in those cars. My Nana and I would anxiously wait for the letters from Vietman. We would go see Woody race at Mockatec. I loved swimming at Lake Teddy.Woody organized several canoe trips down Matamores and we would stop at Art Romans tavern halfway.
He told me the river was full of Electric eels so I would'nt get out of my canoe.
He was a practical jokester.
October I always looked forward to the annual," Empty Jug" shoot. I have many fond memories of Woody. He was a special gift to us and because we loved that gift we will feel the pain of missing him that much more. An article someone gave to me helps me deal with loss."It's as though somebody came and gave you the keys to a Corvette and said, 'Someday, I'll be back to take back the Corvette. You don't get mad at that."
Instead, you remember all the days you spent cruising with the top down, the ones so bright you wore sunglasses. Goodbye Woody. We will miss you. Love, Kevin, Jane and Troy

Woody was my cousin. I went to the shoot twice and Woody welcomed me. Woody lent me his hand gun for a few of the competitions, which helped me do well. I also remember as a kid staying at Woody's house on the lake and having a lot of fun. Woody was a good guy.

Uncle Woody will always be remembered in our hearts as a strong leader. He always had a funny story to tell or a neat game to play. The button game or the people that lived in the room in the basement. He will be missed dearly by all. I take comfort in knowing that he is with our Pop Pop and Nana... Luv always

Dear Diane and Loved ones,
During Woody's illness I prayed often that his comfort would be felt by his loved ones. His suffering was and is his redemptive grace.
When I think of Woody I associate him as a "man in love with nature." He has kept us in touch with our extended family with his hunting adventures and rifle outings. No one can fantom the depths of ones Spirit. This is the legacy that Woody leaves with us..His Unique Personhood.
1/30/09 Love you, Claire

I Have A Place In Heaven
Please don't sing sad songs for me,
Forget your grief and fears,
For I am in a perfect place,
Away from pain and tears.
It's far away from hunger,
And hurt and want and pride,
I have a place in Heaven,
With the Master at my side.
My life on earth was very good,
As earthly life can go,
But Paradise is so much more,
Than anyone can know.
My heart is filled with happiness,
And sweet rejoicing too,
To walk with God is perfect peace,
A joy forever new.
I wait for you, my loved ones,
My heartstrings feel the tug,
But it didn't take me long to find,
A heavenly Empty Jug
I'm sure there is an Empty Jug in heaven. I can just see Woody, having the time of his life, organizing the "Ultimate Shoot", and just waiting for Dian and everyone else to get the thing started.
Save a spot for me!

My first memories of Woody came from reading letters he had written to my Nana from Vietnam and seeing his picture in his dress uniform. My favorite memories were the canoe trips, clam bakes, and sunny fall days at the Jug with all the family.

Dear Dian and Family,
No words can ever express how we feel about the loss of Woody. Hold fast to all your memories---the joy and laughter, the sorrow and tears---for all the times spent together make up a lifetime of memories to draw from when you need to.
Woody was one of the smartest people we knew---we loved his dry humor---and his love for creating things. I can remember playing "Woody's board game" for hours---a game he made up and designed. Playing poker with Woody and Dian was a highlight of our times spent together---we would play into the wee hours of the morning---and Woody usually always WON!!!!!!!!!!
We have allowed too much time to go by without seeing Dian and Woody and that is a lesson for all to learn. Make the time for friends and family because we just never know what will happen.
We celebrate your life Woody----your wonderful gift for living life to the fullest---your love for Dian and your family---your love for adventure---We will miss you!
Love
Vicki and Butch Miller

Dian & Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. There simply are no words to explain what you are feeling right now but know that Woody will never really leave you. You will carry a part of him in your heart everyday. There will be those moments when you are not sure how to carry on, but I can tell you from experience that at no time in your life will your friends and family be as important. Please lean on them when you have to but never feel guilty when you need that alone time. Please know I am here for you.

My fondest memory is Woody teaching me how to play pool on our new pool table when I was about 12. He taught me to play cards and to never count my money while I was sitting at the table, and that went for monopoly too! Good times too at the cabin and out in the canoe on the lake. I loved Woody's sense of humor. He was like a big brother when I was young, and I'm just so grateful to him for giving my sister the love of her life. God Bless, Chris

Woody was the love of my sister's life. I knew it from the start when they were only dating. I was a very young child, but whenever he arrived at our house to pick her up I would go running to the door yelling, "Woody, Woody, Woody!"
Thank you, Woody, for loving my sister and serving our nation!
