Obituary of Edmond Duffin

Edmond Duffin of Hawley died Fri., Feb. 5, at home. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary E. Lonergan. They were married on Mar. 17, 1959, in Tipperary, Ireland. Born in Cheekpoint, Waterford, Ireland, he was the son of the late Patrick and Anastasia Hahlon Duffin. He was a commissioned officer in the Irish Army during World War II. He also served in the English Merchant Marines for 16 years during which he was Quartermaster on the Queen Elizabeth for 8 years.
Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor at Becker-Dickenson Pharmaceutical Co. He has a US Coast Guard Certificate and was Fleet Manager of Victaulic Co. before he retired at age 65. He had been a resident of Carteret and Lakewood, NJ, prior to moving to Hawley in 2000. He was a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister-in-law: Eizabeth LaTournous, widow of the late Walter LaTournous, of White Mills; a niece: Breda Duffin Salutti of Red Bank, NJ; a nephew: Julian Farrugia of Ontario, Canada; many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and New Jersey as well as Patrick LaTournous, Renee Palmer, Maureen Kilpatrick and Michelle LaTournous in the local area; many grandnieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Bridget Duffin, Kitty Power, Annie Murphy, Rose Farrugia and Judy Meechan; and 2 brothers, James and Charles.
A Funeral Mass will be held Mon., Feb. 8, at 10 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck and Rev. Balaraju Desam officiating. Visitation will be at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, on Sun., Feb. 7, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Interment of his cremains will be laid to rest at a later date at his home in Cheekpoint, Waterford, Ireland, with his parents and family.
