Obituary of Charles Gillette

Charles Gillette, age 79, of Hawley died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Bethany Village, Bethany, PA. His family was by his side when he died. Born June 6, 1930, in Dunmore, PA, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Josephine (Ciero) Gillette.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Regina Helen Wendrick. They married on September 5, 1949.
A Hawley High School and Wayne Commercial School graduate, he was a Korean War Army veteran. A Hawley resident since 1933, he retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service. He had also owned and operated Sandy Beach Motel for 16 years and worked at Yuba Fabricating Corp. After his retirement from the Postal Service, he owned and operated the Trading Post in Hawley for 10 years.
Mr. Gillette was a member of Knights of Columbus for 33 years and was past Grand Knight of Hawley Council #797 3rd Degree, past Faithful Navigator of #927 Bishop Hoban Assembly 4th Degree, member 4th Degree of Honor/Color Guard and had Honorary Lifetime Membership 4th Degree. In addition, he was formerly on the Board of Directors at 2 local banks and was a former member of the Board of Trustees at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He loved to travel, golf and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. His favorite trip while traveling was to Guardia la Lombardia, Italy, in 2003. He was a member of the Gourmet Dinner Club for 37 years. He also had a hole-in-one at Red Maples Golf Course in South Canaan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Lori Gillette of Raleigh, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Vicki Gillette of Detroit, MI, and Stephen and Patti Gillette of Portland, OR; one brother: Albert Gillette of Hawley, PA; and four grandchildren: Michael, Melanie, Kamil and Karolina.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Gillette, and a sister, Rose Marie Bebensee.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. There will be a Funeral Mass on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Anyone planning on attending the funeral should go directly to the church. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
