John Wesley Holbert, age 84, of Hawley died unexpectedly Sunday, February 27, 2011, at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine M. Cosentino Holbert, in 2006. They had been married since 1949.
Born March 25, 1926, in Indian Orchard, PA, he was the son of the late Burton and Eliza (Ayers) Holbert. Prior to his retirement, he was a factory worker at Vacca's Arrow Throwing Mill in Hawley and a security guard at Moore Business Forms in Honesdale. Mr. Holbert was a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church and Hawley Senior Citizens.
He is survived by two daughters: Antoinette Charette of White Mills and Liza Hiller and her husband Don of Honesdale; seven grandchildren: Mandy Penwarden Vactor, Cheryl Raymond, Thomas Charette, Daniel, Ryan and Kristopher Hiller, and Jessica Roberts; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Harrison and Myrtle Gillow; and ten brothers: Ralph, Fred, Robert, Ed, Lester, Carl, Kenneth, Ronald, James and Harold.
Calling hours will be Friday, Mar. 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. There will be a Funeral Mass on Sat., Mar. 5, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Father Irudaya Illuri, Assistant Pastor. Burial will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.
