Obituary of Ruth McCabe

Ruth McCabe, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY surrounded by her devoted family.
Born on May 27, 1929 to Raymond and Marjorie Schenck in Hawley, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Walter McCabe and also her mother, stepmother, father and brother.
Following graduation form Hawley High School in 1947, Ruth worked as a counselor at Camp Lenape (Fairview Lake) and a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in the Hawley area. In September of 1949 Ruth married Walter McCabe also of Hawley. Following a move to Binghamton, NY, Ruth worked as a secretary for Royal Crown Cola then had a long fruitful career at the YWCA. Her responsibities included executive secretary and PR Director for the Binghamton office. Following her retirement form the YWCA she led water aerobic classes for women at the YWCA facility.
Ruth's family and friends were her joy and her house was always open and full of love. She was a devoted member of United with Christ Church of Johnson City led by her son-in-law, Pastor Chris Scarinzi and was beloved by the congregation. She was alsovery artistic and enjoyed many creative activities such as painting, knitting, crafts and sewing to name a few.
Ruth is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Walter & Sandra McCabe of Norwich, NY; TIm & Annette McCabe of Richmond, VA; one daughter & son-in-law, Margie & Chris Scarenzi of Binghamton, NY; one sister & brother-in-law, Leila & Joe Ballard of Hawley, PA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Ruth will be sorely missed.
