George R. "Skip" McKean, age 71, of Hawley died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at home. His wife, the former Margaret Clark died in 1996.
Born August 17, 1939, in Shohola, son of the late George and Marie Quick McKean.In 1978, Skip founded Fantasy Island, a peaceful gathering spot for family and friends. He was the owner of George R McKean Excavating.
Surviving are daughters Kathleen McKean, Honesdale; Dawn and husband David Bates, Hawley. A son John and wife Michelle McKean, Hawley. Eight grandchildren, Lindsay & Brandon, Kassidy, Alyssa, John-John; Morgan, Kayla & Nicholas; Soon To Be Great-granddaughter Madeline. A sister Carolyn and Husband Ron Gray, Hawley. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son George T. and grandson Georgie McKean; also a sister Betty Unangst.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00AM at Fantasy Island, Williams Road, Hawley with Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor of Hawley United Methodist Church officiating.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel with burial to follow at German Hill Cemetery.
