Obituary of Eleanor M. Wingis
Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor M. "Ellie" Wingis, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. She has joyfully reunited with her husband, John J. Wingis, who predeceased her in 2000, their daughter Nancy who died in 1987, and those in her family and her friends who also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Kimble and husband, Donald of Hawley, Don's brother Bill whom she called "her adopted son", three grandsons, Rick, Dustin and John Sawyer, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Ellie was born in 1923 in Philadelphia to Nancy Alfonso whom she loved and admired deeply. She married John in 1947 after he came home from WWII, and as a homemaker, raised two daughters, Janice and Nancy. She and John retired to Port Richey, Florida and enjoyed retirement there for 30 years. Then she moved to Hawley area in 2005 to be close to her daughter.
She resided at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel the last years of her life. To her, the aides and nurses there were her "angels of mercy" and she will be sorely missed by the staff along with some special friends and her roommate. Ellie's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to all at Julia Ribaudo and to Dr. Patrick Murnin, all of whom took such special good care of her.
Ellie was known for her larger than life personality, sense of humor and quick wit. She also had a deeply compassionate side. She was loved and admired by all, and was a soulmate to many of her friends and relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at B.V.M. Queen of Peace Church in Hawley on Thursday, July 11, 2011 at 10:30 AM.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
