Obituary of Mildred L. Wintermute

Mildred L. Wintermute, age 87, of Wesley Village, Pittston, died Friday, December 23, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gail B. Wintermute, in 2004. They had married in 1946. Mrs. Wintermute was born May 27, 1924, in Pen Argyl, PA, and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie (Smale) Young. She attended the Churchman Business College in Easton. She and her husband served churches in Hawley, Scranton, Springville and Bird-in-Hand, PA. She was also a retired piano teacher and secretary. Mrs. Wintermute was a member of Beach Lake United Methodist Church and past president of Scranton District of United Methodist Women and past president of the Hawley Women's Club. She was active with the Hawley Senior Center and instructed over 100 Hawley youth in piano. She had a great love for children, having taught Children's Sunday School classes for more than 50 years. She was also involved in Christian Education work in the Scranton District United Methodist churches and Wyoming Conference churches. Along with her husband, she directed elementary and special needs camps for many years at Sky Lake Camp, Windsor, NY. Millie had a great interest in angels and had a collection of over 1,000 angels of all types. She now contentedly rests in the arms of angels. The family would like to thank Dr. James Kosik and the dedicated staff at Wesley Village for the compassionate care Millie received during her 5 years there. She is survived by her daughter Louise Gelotte and husband Clint of Sedona, AZ; her son Gail B. Wintermute and wife Debra of Scranton; a brother, Earl Young of Easton, PA; 3 grandchildren, Jared Saia and wife Julia, David B. Wintermute and wife Alyssa, and Sara J. Wintermute. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Zane Saia and Alexandra Wintermute, and several nieces. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Myrtle Street United Methodist Church, 840 Harrision Ave., Scranton, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sky Lake Campership Fund, 501 William Law Rd., Windsor, NY 13865-2128.
