Obituary of Albert James Gallagher

Albert James Gallagher, age 82, of Fawn Lake Forest, Hawley died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Nan) Ferns Gallagher. Born August 26, 1934, in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Albert James and Anne (Hendrie) Gallagher. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and Iona College. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. A former member of the Local 3 Elevator/Electrician Union, he was an elevator engineer for Millar Co. in New York City until his retirement in 1997. Formerly of Emerson, NJ and Melbourne, FL, he had been a Fawn Lake Forest resident for 20 years. He was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley. He played soccer in Yonkers well into his adulthood. In his free time, he also enjoyed researching family genealogy. A tinkerer who could fix nearly anything, he was known as Big Al with the Big Heart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Jean Marie Gallagher of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Karen Glock and her husband Fred of Butler, NJ; two sons: Thomas Gallagher of Riverdale, NJ, and Michael Gallagher and his wife Ingrid of Maywood, NJ; two brothers: Edward Gallagher of North Carolina and Rev. John Gallagher of Connecticut; and eight grandchildren: Kayla, Bryan, Scott, Andrew, Brendan, Mathew, Grace and Jack. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Raymond. Calling hours will be Friday, January 13, from 2 to 6 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 14, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley with Rev. John Gallagher officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
