Obituary of Martin Joseph Vehstedt
Martin Joseph Vehstedt, age 81, of Hidden Lake Estates, Hawley died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his his wife, Christine (Magnussen) Vehstedt. They were married in 1989.
Born January 24, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Kathleen M. (Taylor) Vehstedt. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Randolph and the Destroyer Escort USS Brough. Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor for the New York City Transit Authority.
Formerly of Staten Island, he and his wife moved to Hidden Lake Estates in 2000. He was a member of BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #1368 of West Brighton, Staten Island, and a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailor Association through his service on the USS Brough. He loved his antique cars and was an avid toy collector.
Calling hours will be Monday, October 30, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Tuesday, October 31, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley, following the service.
