Obituary of Mildred Helene Compton

Mildred “Millie” Helene Compton, age 102, a lifelong resident of Hawley, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale.

Mrs. Compton was born December 18, 1915 in Blooming Grove, PA and was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Oester) Miller.  She was predeceased by her husband George in December 1991. 

Millie was an active member of St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Willing Workers.  She also volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital, American Cancer Society and was very involved with the Wayne County Republican Women.

She is survived by one son: George Compton Jr. of New Castle, DE; two grandchildren:  Lori Compton of Archbald, PA, and  Bill Compton of New Castle, DE; three great grandchildren:  Eric Lee, Kaitlyn Compton, and Michael Compton; and two sisters: Charlotte Edwards-Vacca of Hawley and Beverly Eckes of Callahan, FL.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helene Stewart, in 2011, and a brother, George Miller, who died in childhood.

The funeral will be Saturday, September 8th, at 11 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 405 Church St., Hawley with Rev. Colleen E. Cox Pastor officiating.

Private burial will be in Green Gates  Cemetery in Hawley.

The Compton family would like to thank the staff at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center for their many years of loving care given to Millie.
