Obituary of Rhoda J. Dewey

Rhoda J. Dewey, age 88, a resident of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, died Monday, January 18, 2021, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, George E. Dewey, in 2003. Born October 23, 1932, in Tyler Hill, Rhoda was the daughter of the late Archer W. and Josephine (Tegeler) Dutton. A Damascus High School graduate, Class of 1951, she had worked as a cutter and finisher at Sherman Mills in Hawley. She had also been the Hawley parking meter person prior to her retirement. Rhoda was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hawley where she was a long-time choir member. She was also a member of the Wayne Council of Republican Women and the Hawley Lioness's Club. Rhoda was a joke teller with a unique sense of humor and she enjoyed many types of sports. She is survived by her sister: Buelah "Boots" Breden of Pomona, NY; her sister-in-law: Virginia Dutton of Honesdale; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arnold, Richard and Gerald Dutton, and her sister, Genevieve Dutton. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. She will be interred next to her husband George in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date to be announced.
