We only came to know John in 2011 after we purchased the home in which he was born in Arcola PA. When John came down for his high school reunions (usually 3 classmates!), he would stop to see what had changed and tell us stories about being raised here and his military service. Those stories were always fascinating. We were able to learn so much about our property, an insight that no one else would have been able to share with us. John's spirit and enthusiasm will be missed. He had a kind soul and we are grateful to have known him, even for such a short time. Gail & John

My heart is heavy to hear of John's passing. I was lucky enough to share a part of his extraordinary life and career. He was my mentor for nine years as I learned what Community Journalism really meant. Under his tutelage, I discovered my passion for telling the story of the place I grew up, in all its intricacies, complexities and even nonsense. He was the last of the
teaching editors" for whom the most important thing always: "We want to be right." John helped me develop my professional compass, and it has never led me astray. We are all somehow less now . . . without him.

My condolence to my extended family. John Dyson was my grandfather's (Harry Dyson) nephew and my mother's (Joan) cousin, we lost my mother this fall also. Our family has a cabin near Honesdale and had purchased his newspapers many times without realizing the family connection. We have an extensive Dyson family tree online and have update his and his family information. Our thoughts and prayers for you all at this difficult time.
