Obituary of William R. Roettger

William R. "Bill" Roettger, age 85, of Lakeville passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center, Lake Ariel. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lynn C. (Nycz) Roettger. Born December 7, 1937, in Weehawken, NJ, Bill was the son of the late Ernest "Red" August and Wilma Anita (Klod) Roettger. Bill taught middle school for 39 years, primarily in the Paramus, NJ School District, until his retirement in 1999. Formerly residents of Wyckoff, NJ, he and his wife moved to Paradise Point in Lakeville in 2002. A skilled carpenter who did much of the finish work on his Paradise Point home, Bill also landscaped the surroundings with lovely rock gardens. Bill lived an active and adventurous life, especially enjoying the outdoors. An avid skier, he ran the Paramus Middle School Ski Club where he was able to share his love of skiing with countless students. Bill and Lynn enjoyed traveling together, both before and after their retirement. Although he enjoyed golfing, his favorite times were spent on Lake Wallenpaupack boating with his family. For many years, he was the self-appointed entertainment director of the Lower Road Picnic where friends, family and neighbors gathered for a day of fun and activities. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three daughters: Pilar Santianna of Wanaque, NJ, Elizabeth Nebiker of Tuxedo Park, NY, and Jessica Einreinhof of Ringwood, NJ; one son: William G. Roettger of Fernandina Beach, FL; one stepdaughter: Denise Bressler of Basking Ridge, NJ; one sister: Patricia Dobish of Cresskill, NJ; and 11 grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale, PA 18431 or the Hawley Public Library, 103 Main Ave., Hawley, PA 18428. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA 18428.
