Art , as the days have gone bye , you have no idea how much I miss you . I needed a way to repaint part of Ann’s 41 Chrysler and was heading for the phone when it hit me . Tears filled my eyes . Well , I guess it will be okay, the paint not me , not yet anyway.
I’ll miss our Sunday calls planning our weeks tasks , bitching about things that seem so small now .
I’m sure many more trips to the phone will come and many more tears will flow .
I’ll end this note with the way we always ended our calls , Love ya

I have only known Art for about a year and a half. But in that time I grew very fond of him. I met Art through my friend Bob as well sitting with him at the bar at Applebees having his gin and tonic and a meal. Several of the meetings took place before I got up enough courage to ask him if I could join his hunting club. He did say yes and last spring/summer I helped him as much as I could with chores around the farm. At the cabin he would always offer me coffee and we would sit and chat. I really felt we had a connection and the same since of humor. When I received the news of his passing I was shocked and devastated. Art became a good friend of mine in the last 18 months or so, he will be greatly missed by myself and all that knew him.

Q: How did you meet Arthur?
A: I’ve known Art since the early 1980’s and moved to Tafton in 1985. At that time Art was bust building his lovely log home. There were several local carpenters on any given day. With the exterior almost complete Art tuned his focus on the interior. In the dining area Art had labored hard installing a pine board wall around the window. I remember it was during the winter and Art asked if I’d like to help him sand and stain his masterpiece.
We sanded almost all day long until it met with Art’s approval and critical eye. Then its time to stain it and, always prepared, he had a gallon of wood stain of some shade that he liked with the lid off and started staining the wall. I remember asking him if we should just do a ‘test area’ to be sure he liked it.
This shade will work he assured me! By the time we finished the staining the wall it was dark out and time to call it a day.
I arrived the next morning promptly at 8:00am to begin applying a clear coat. Why was I hearing a sander running…..inside Art was busy sanding off all the stain we had painstakingly applied the day before. “Grab a sander….lets get this sanded off” said Art. “Why”? I foolishly asked.
“I don’t like the shade”! Said Art quite matter of factly. “Come on, lets get this done”!
So the two of us spent the entire day sanding off all of the previous days work!!
Art was a perfectionist in finishing his home and it shows through to this day.
“Art…….Thanks for so many good times my friend, you’ll be sadly missed by the many people who came to know Art MacDonald”

Uncle Art, you have always been a special man in my life. You were there for me anytime . As a young girl I remember you coming to our house in your Navy Whites, oh did you ever look so sharp.
Then we moved to Fl ,you came for my graduation, mine and my brothers weddings and then even for my daughters . You ,Mary and uncle Norman all came down. I know you would have come when dad passed but it was 911, no flights. We enjoyed visiting you up there in PA and our visits here. I always had to be ready for your sarcasm, always done with love, the MacDonald way. I am so clad we had the chance last year to be together again , I didn’t want it to be the last time. Uncle Art you will be so missed, always loved my last link to my dad. I hope you are all together now.
I will always know the love you had for your family ,the helping hand, and your smiling smirk .My love always your loving niece Debbie and Bill. ❤️

Art, you’ve been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. You were my big brother to go to for anything. You were my voice of reason. You introduced me to Jags at an early age, so of course I had to have one. You showed me how to shoot and created a life-long passion for target shooting and guns. No matter the task, you showed me how and why to get it done. You will always be a part of me and I miss you so much. Love you, Gary & Ann

I got to know Art almost 20 years ago as a client of my law firm…and he quickly became a friend and likely the favorite client ever of secretaries and staff. Art was honest, principled, trustworthy and firm…attributes I wish more people had. All you have to do to earn his respect is work hard and be honest. He was always interested in everyones business, and kept a watchful eye over his own…and always spoke of his family and dog. I learned so much from him; he will be missed but not forgotten

I believe it was in the fall of 1994 when I first met Art. I had just bought a house in 1993 less than 2 miles from Arts camp/farm . I had heard through the grapevine that Art had started a hunting club on his property called “ valley view hunting club” . Being an Avid hunter and outdoorsman myself I decided to knock on his cousin joes house where he was staying weekends at the time . I introduced myself and asked if I could join his club. He invited me in and we sat and talked awhile . I told him I’d be more than happy to help with chores and whatever work was needed around his club/ farm . So Art agreed to allow me to join his club. It didn’t take long and Art and I became very close friends . I know Art liked I was a man of my word, wasn’t lazy and fulfilled my promise of helping him with his farm and club . We planted trees, worked the fields, put up many a tree stand and built his cabin together along with some other helpers . Art was a man of appreciation, if you were fair and honest with with him he would pay you back 10 fold and go out of his way to help you. And Art did go out of his way to help me in many a endeavor. I looked up to Art and valued his knowledge and advise , and I asked it often. I don’t believe I ever met a man that worked so hard everyday and was always striving to do better. I wish I had half his knowledge, energy, ambition and motivation. I stayed in his club for over 20 years but eventually leased a piece of property that bordered mine. Although I was no longer in his club we always remained close friends and he always said your still always welcome to hunt the club . Hardly a weekend went by where he didn’t stop in just to make a point to say “ hi , how’s it going “ ? One of those times was less than a week prior to his passing. He stopped in to say hi just as my wife and I were sitting down to have dinner. So I insisted he stay and join us and made him his favorite drink “ gin and tonic “ we were having venison burgers and fries. The burger was made from a nice grinder that Art bought me as a gift . He was always very generous to me . Little did I know it was going to be the last time we shared a drink together and enjoyed each other’s company. I feel so blessed that he stopped in and we got to share a drink and meal together. When Randy broke the horrible news to me of his passing I was stunned , shocked and in disbelief. Art just seemed so invincible to me , Art was just a tough , rugged , smart and talented man. He will be forever missed by me . The memories we created together will never be forgotten. I’ll miss you Art ! Rest In Peace my good friend . Forever your friend, Bob Farrell

Uncle Art you will be missed!! I wish I could have thanked you for all the memories. Whether it was late nights at the cabin, learning how to drive a quad, days at the PIP INN, or hunts at the farm. We always had a good time and laughed. I will even miss your sarcastic jokes, sauna sessions at the farm, and yes even stacking all that firewood. RIP and find all the good hunting spots on the other side!!!!
