Carolyn Julia Smyth, age 75, of Tafton died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at home surrounded by her family and friends. Ms. Smyth was born April 17, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Robert and the late Blanche (Radcliffe) Calvin. They lived in North Bergen, NJ until Blanche's passing then Whiting, NJ until Robert's passing. Carolyn was predeceased by a son, James Smyth, two brothers, William and Joseph Calvin. Carolyn, lovingly known to all as Cookie, was a remarkable woman whose love, devotion, and care touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was an extraordinary single mother who embodied unconditional love and selflessness. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and she embraced her role as both a mother and a father with boundless affection and tenderness. Her three sons were the center of her world, and she showered them with nurturing care, guidance, and non-judgemental support throughout their lives. Cookie's love and support extended beyond her own children. Her grandchildren and daughter-in-law adored her. Her fiance, Rick, was always by her side. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel valued, loved and cherished. Friends and acquaintances often sought her out for her kind and compassionate nature, knowing that she would always lend a listening ear, offer sage advice, and provide a comforting hug. Cookie had an innate ability to anticipate the needs of those around her. She possessed an empathetic heart that enabled her to understand the unspoken words and offer solace in times of distress. Her steadfast presence in our lives provided a sense of security and warmth that will be deeply missed. Her unwavering devotion to her family and her indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and guide us through the years to come. Her legacy of love will forever remain etched in our hearts, reminding us of the immeasurable impact she had on all of our lives. She was a beacon of love, a pillar of strength, and a source of loving support. She will be forever missed. She is survived by two sons: Bryan and his wife, Shannon Smyth of Lake Ariel, PA, their children: Justin and Ethan Smyth; Gavin, Connor, Duncan and Brody Nelson; Keith Smyth of Lebanon, PA, his children, Sarah, Jennika, Isabella, fiance, Donald "Rick" Carter of Tafton, PA; James' children, Matthew and Zachary Smyth; sister Barbara and her husband, Edward Rossi of Lakewood, NJ, Barbara's son Adam and his wife, Jeanette Calvin, Joseph's Companion, Sally Oliveti of Surfside Beach, SC. Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.
