JoAnn was a WONDERFUL, CARING teacher. We both traveled between buildings before the new buildings were built. I remember her teaching in the hallway at Blooming Grove. We all had to find a nook or cranny to work in. She cared deeply for her students.

So sorry for your loss. I remember when Shannon Kennedy was born, 46 years ago, Joanne knitted her a green baby blanket which she still has today!! What a special lady!

Oh, my dear friend Joann, how I will miss you! We spent so many years teaching together and organizing the Title 1 program. Trips to reading conferences and Broadway shows with Alicia McLain. You taught me how to navigate New York City like a pro. You were a dedicated primary teacher “down to your toenails” (one of Joann’s many expressions.*) How fortunate were the hundreds of students who were in your classes. You “ran a tight ship”* with empathy and consistency. I loved when you told a student he/she had 3 wrong on a math paper but wouldn’t tell them which ones - “go over your work and find them.” You were a dying breed, Si.
I will miss your sharp wit, your wry
sense of humor. I often find myself using your expressions. Your retelling of stories like the time you got locked in your broom closet classroom with the students had us in stitches. Remember when we’d vent our frustration by starting with “Can we talk?” (Joan Rivers)
You were a classic, Joann Seiler, and I am honored to call you my friend.
