Obituary of Thomas J. Nuttall Jr.
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Joseph Nuttall, Jr., age 73, of Hawley, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, after a prolonged illness. Born on February 22, 1950, Tom is survived by his wife, Daryl Cullen and his mother Barbara Ann (Pachelbel) Nuttall. He is also survived by sons Thomas J. Nuttall III and David D. Nuttall, sisters Mary Katherine McGurl and Christine Stowell, stepson Robert Cullen, stepdaughter Dana Cullen, nephews Zachary and Matthew Stowell, and John McGurl, and four great nephews and a great niece. He was predeceased by his father Thomas J. Nuttall and his daughter, Alisa Nuttall.
After graduating from Abington Heights High School in 1969, and spending time at Millersville University, Tom began a long and successful career in the trucking business through various companies such as Roadway, Conway, and Consolidated Freight. He worked long hard hours for many years, focusing on dispatching, dock supervising, and trouble shooting. He was indispensable and well-respected.
Tom had great passion for Lake Wallenpaupack and all things boat. From a young age, he found ways to be on the water. He was an impressive water skier, wakeboarder, and sail boater. There are certainly untold boating adventures with fellow lake lovers. The ocean played a close second for Tom's passion. Tom and his wife Daryl spent time exploring the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas through vacations and cruises, and more recently decided that wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida was the best way to get out of shoveling snow.
Tom learned to drive a motorcycle at a young age and continued this pastime throughout his life. He loved to ride with fellow cyclists, and travel long distances to enjoy beautiful scenery.
Tom took advantage of every second of his life and never passed up an opportunity to try something new, spend time with people he loved, and stay on the go. He followed in his father's footsteps and became an excellent carpenter and craftsman. He was especially proud of the upkeep and improvements he made to the original Sunny Point lake house built by his father in the early 1970's.
Tom's energy was endless. He is a reminder to us all to keep going, keep loving life, and hold your loved ones close.
