Daniel Joseph Kennedy Jr., age 55, of Honesdale, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with his family by his side after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Dan was born on December 11, 1968, in Honesdale and was the son of Daniel J. Kennedy Sr. and the late Alice Ann (Wells) Kennedy. Dan graduated from Honesdale High School in 1987 and worked for his father at Dan Kennedy Excavating until 1995 when he started his own business, Dan Kennedy Jr. Excavating, which he operated until his untimely death. He is survived by his loving wife, Davette (Smith) Kennedy with whom he just shared their 30th wedding anniversary on August 13, 2024; his son, Luke Kennedy, of Honesdale; his sister, Paulette Bronson and husband Jim of Lakewood; his nieces, Jennifer (Eldred) Bennett and her husband Andrew of Starrucca and USMC Major Allison Bates of Yuma, AZ; his great nieces, Taylor (Bennett) Delaney and her husband Tim of Jackson, PA; and his mother-in-law, Donna (Dexheimer) Smith of Honesdale. He is predeceased by his sister, Anita Joy (Kennedy) Cousins, and his father-in-law, David Smith. Davette extends a special thank you to their family and friends for their support over the last month and to Kacie Post from Wayne Memorial Hospice for helping Luke and Davette get through this difficult time. As per Dan's wishes, there will be no services.
