Helen C. Weir, age 88, of Millbrook, Greentown, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John G. Weir, in 1996.
Born February 9, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Helen (Allendar) Schumacher. Formerly of Bensalem, PA, she had been a Greentown resident since 1970.
During World War II, Helen served as an Air Raid Warden and worked at the Bud Company where she safety wired radios for Vaught Corsairs. After the war, she raised her 4 children. Helen loved her job as a school bus driver for many years. After retiring from that she worked as Assistant Manager of Tanglewood Resorts. For the last 27 years she was employed as the office manager for Lake Service, Paupack.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, did daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles and loved taking walks with her beloved dog, Bella. Her zest for life and ability to make people laugh were treasured by all who knew her. She was also a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters: Judy Smith and her companion Casey Crofut of Old Forge, NY, and Tammy Moore and her husband Michael ofLederach, PA; two sons: John and his wife Lisa of Pottstown, PA and Fred and his wife Alice of Bristol, PA; a brother: Jon Schumacher of Gaines, PA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 7, at Paupack United Methodist Church, Rt 507, Paupack with Rev. Dr. Jeffery Rarich officiating. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
